报告题目:Electrification through EVs and e-mobility for net zero achievement

报告摘要:Electrification of transportation is considered a vital target for each country that need to be achieved sooner rather than later, in order to match the net zero emission. Starting with electrical vehicles is an obvious alternative to reduce CO2 and improve air quality for the benefit of public health. The integration of renewable into the electrical grid to cover the sharp rise in space heating and demand from electrical vehicles is crucial to maximise the benefit from decarbonizing our communities through e-motilities. What EVs will bring to the community and where is the risk? This is yet a hot topic and debate in the research community.

报告人简介:Mohamed Emad Farrag is a Professor in Electrical Power, the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Glasgow Caledonian University. Prof Farrag received his PhD in FACTS Technology in power system from Northumbria University, UK in 2002.In 2004, he was selected to join the Egyptian Higher Education Reform Project ($73 million), that is funded by the World Bank. He was the director of the technical communications with the World Bank and the supervisor of the procurement department. In 2008, Emad decided to embark the research vehicle again and joined Northumbria University as a visiting lecturer, where he developed renewable energy integration lab and computer aided assessment for MSc course. This was followed by taking a post as a research fellow in the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development at De Montfort University, UK.

He joined GCU as a lecturer in January 2010, was then promoted to SL in 2014, Reader in 2017 and finally Professor in 2019. Through this journey, he has taken several responsibilities.

——director of the SMART technology research centre, and

——now is serving the University Senate.

——a chair of the programme board, founder of the smart energy lab,

Prof Farrag is a Charter Engineer and Academic Accreditor at the IET, and Senior Fellow of HEA. He has around 80 publications in distinguished journals and refereed conferences in the field of electrical power engineering and integration of energy storage systems into the smart grid.

His research interests include artificial intelligent control application in condition monitoring and control of FACTS technologies. Emad is leading multi millions projects in capacity building funded by Erasmus+, €907,000 eSTEM with partners from Europe & Egypt and €981,000 THREE-Lanka with partners from Europe & Sri Lanka.

He is running industry-funded projects (£300) in cable fault monitoring, asset management and Digital Twins with Scottish Power Network. In addition to projects funded by the SFC and ETP.

He has organised and Chaired UPEC2018 conference at GCU.
